Any long journey is likely to have taken an indirect route and my 30+ year career is no exception. Along the way I have had opportunities in a variety of business functions and the pleasure of partnering with extremely capable and honorable people the sum of which has brought me to iConnectGreen.
If I were to choose a tagline for my career it would be "What have we learned from this experience?" Those who have worked with me and know me well have heard that single phrase many times. I am committed to that same philosophy in all aspects of my life.
Work has always been important to me as I come from a family of dedicated and hardworking individuals. My work experience started at a young age with encouragement and guidance from my parents who were raised with the belief that any task worth doing was worth doing well and as a result taught their five children to approach their jobs as if they owned the company. I learned that lesson well and it was instrumental in forming my work ethic, loyalty to my employees, dedication to my business partners and clients.
After paying for my own education at Northeastern University with the help of the cooperative education program, work study and a $600 loan, I was well on my way to confirming my belief that hard work will bring positive results. My first professional position was with IBM and was offered to me after a coop stint of over 3 years. During my first few years with IBM, my personal and professional growth was beyond my expectations and continued throughout my 17 year association with them. In addition to learning a great deal about sales, marketing, training and business operations I learned an important lifelong lesson and that is a positive reputation is priceless.
In addition to corporate experience I have also had the opportunity to work for several smaller companies where I recognized and nurtured my entrepreneurial spirit. Resource constraints and broader responsibilities are the norm in such organizations which requires a higher level of creativity and thinking outside the box, a lesson I embraced and learned well.
Playing a key role in a start-up was one of the most challenging and exhilarating experience of my professional career. While the responsibilities are significant, so are the rewards. With the challenge of building an organization from the ground up, developing and mentoring employees and producing a quality product for our clients, I combined my entrepreneurial spirit with the benefits of corporate rigor.
Extensive experience has taught me many lasting lessons which I would not trade for any amount of fame or fortune. There are a few I am reminded of often: (1) there is no substitute for leading by example; (2) all goals, personal or business, must be SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely); and, (3) the famous adages your parents told you such as "You reap what you sow" are true. Individually, each lesson has a limited impact. However, when combined, they define a culture where respect, team building, cooperative spirit and performance are valued and rewarded, and when combined with effective communication, change management and partnering with executive management, they will create and maintain a very successful business.

I have always been intrigued with how things work. Whether I was dissecting my toys or watching my father reconfigure his computer's hardware, I wanted to see things from the inside out. Early in my career, I studied psychology and criminology and was fascinated with the human mind and behavior. Working with troubled teens for several years was both challenging and rewarding. I saw the power of the human spirit to overcome adversities beyond my imagination. How determination to succeed could empower someone to beat the odds.
I still had a yearning to learn more and wanted to study how businesses operated and "behaved". I pursued my second passion, Accounting and business administration. Once I began to study business, I was fascinated by how diverse and complex the business environment was. How it took the talents of various people to make an organization run efficiently and effectively.
Applying my academic knowledge within various industries as an auditor, I built a base of knowledge that allowed me to grow in my career. I had the opportunity to work with an organization that at the time I started had 3 companies, a law firm and 2 not-for-profit organizations. As the CFO/COO, I had the pleasure of organizing the corporate structure, refocus their missions and strategic direction, and create a strong financial platform for the companies and their people to grow and expand. Gaining exposure to start-up operations, we formed a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization as well as an information technology company. To start from nothing and grow an IT organization to more than 100 people filled me with joy and excitement. I found a place to combine my passion for human and business behavior. Provide people with the technology they need to do their job, deliver a high quality service that in the end resulted in a strong internal organization and gives the clients the tools they needed to be successful.
I am excited to be working with various businesses to employ technology, processes and procedures that help the wide array of employees do their jobs and capture their knowledge along the way. My goal is to help people and businesses reach their utmost potential through sound business practices and state of the art technology solutions.
